Contrary to popular belief, the ACT Reading Comprehension section is not simply a test of speed but also one of logic. The Complete Guide to ACT Reading combines fundamentals of comprehension with test-taking techniques to explain how to maximize your score by approaching the test strategically. Includes:
-Extensive strategies for managing time throughout the Reading Comprehension section both as a whole and on each passage/question set.
-An in-depth explanation of skimming techniques -- learn to focus on the most important parts of a passage without getting lost in the details, and to locate key information more rapidly as you work through the questions.
-An overview of common passage topics and themes designed to teach you to "read the test" and identify correct and incorrect answers more accurately and efficiently.
-A complete chapter devoted to each major question type: literal comprehension, vocabulary-in-context, function/purpose, tone, inference, and point of view.
-Examples from The Real Guide Guide to the ACT, 3rd Ed. demonstrating how to apply the techniques discussed to actual ACT questions.
With passages drawn from the same contemporary sources and authors used on administered ACT exams, this book provides accurate, rigorous preparation designed to teach you exactly what to expect when you sit down to take the real exam -- whether your goal is a 25 or a 36.

About the author
After scoring an 800 Verbal in high school, Erica Meltzer assumed she was done with the SAT for good. That changed in 2007, when she answered a Craigslist ad for an SAT tutor and inadvertently found herself in the high-pressure world of Manhattan test prep. Concerned by the lack of accurate, high-quality commercial SAT prep material, she began writing her own. Her first book, "The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar," has been widely praised as the most effective source of SAT grammar preparation and is currently used by tutoring companies across the United States.
A native of Brookline, Massachusetts and a graduate of Brookline High School (where she was required to memorize Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style" as a freshman), she holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and has also studied at Harvard, Columbia, and the Sorbonne. She lives and works in New York City, and you can visit her website at http://www.thecriticalreader.com.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Her two practice tests at the end of this book also add extra assignments to the dearth of official and official looking ACT tests available.
Yes, the book has some typos and the her writing isn't the most gripping nor compelling work you will read; however, in terms of content and strategy, I don't know of a better book to supplement the reading section of the Real ACT Prep Guide.
