Product Description
Continental 0100000 Grand Prix 4000S 700 x 23 Black Tire with Black Chili boasts global appeal as the best all round race bike tire on the market. The all black Grand Prix 4000 S catches the eye with its big silver labels. Aggressive and posh alike, it matches every high-end race bike perfectly. With the reduction to black and silver the Grand Prix 4000S does not clash with the frames color or rim stickers. S stands for sport, special and “Schwarz“ – the German term for black. But the Grand Prix 4000 S can do more than just look good. Not only is it fast and super grippy, thanks to its state-of-the-art Black Chili rubber compound, but it is also tough with a healthy tread layer and of course our Vectran anti puncture breaker layer underneath. So for reliability, longevity and all out performance for your race machine, the Grand Prix 4000s is the only choice. Specs: Color - black/black skin foldable; Black Chili - yes; Weight - 205 grams; Recommended PSI - 110; Maximum PSI - 120; PU - 10.

I have had one flat since I got these. It was a pinch flat due to my pressure being lower than it should have been. Keep the pressure up to maximum, and you should not have a problem with flats.
So as mentioned, since putting these on I've logged near 800 miles on them and they've been absolutely fantastic. I've taken these tires over terrain sure to flatten my stock tires: potholes and rough road debris, wide-grated metal bridges, rough NJ shore-area roadways and even a pebble/stone laden construction site (yeah, don't ask...).
Still being a relative newcomer to cycling, I can't comment with any expertise on rolling resistance, stickiness or noise. Nothing has struck me as unordinary about this tire in any of those categories though, so unless you're anything other than an amateur/hobby cyclist I think these will more than satisfy your needs. Great tires, great price. I'll be back for more WHEN these finally give...
Others have said that they have been getting 7000 mile life; I must be really hard on tires because at half of that mileage my set is close to worn per the wear dots. Maybe they will wear more slowly from this point on out? Just for reference, I'm about 75 kg and always run with tires pumped to ~800 kPaG (~115 psi).
The tires seem to be pretty puncture and tear resistant. In over 2500 miles of riding I didn't have a single flat (comparable to some of my friends on Gatorskins-and we ride the same roads). I did hit something which tore through all of the layers and rendered one completely useless, but I'm not sure any tire could have withstood whatever I hit.
I'd bash Continental, but I've been using 700x25 Gator Hardshells for over a year. They have cuts and holes in the outer tire, but the strong inner lining, which includes the sidewalls, keeps them in decent shape.
The same guy who told me how great the 4000S is also said that one of his Continental GatorSkin tires got a split in the tire after only a couple of weeks. These reviews are only worth so much. I also ordered Vittoria Rubino Pros based on good reviews, but I got a split in one of those after a couple of weeks, although not as bad as this rip in the 4000s.
The Gator Hardshells are either better tires, or I've got lucky. For a 700x25, the specs say they're 270 grams, but mine weight 250 grams, though it might be because of the wear.
Seventy dollars for the Rubino Pros, down the tubes, and $96 for a worthless pair of 4000Ss.
I'll keep the 4000S tires to occasionally feel how flimsy they feel compared to the Gator Hardshells, so I'll resist the temptation to spend a hundred dollars to try and lighten my tire weight by 50 grams a tire, to only find out that I've wasted my money.
It seems like my Michelins started to crack (dry rot?) after very little use. Perhaps I got a bad set, but the Continental 4000S are still in like new shape after several hundred miles. I couldn't be more impressed. In fact, so impressed I bought a second set for my hybrid bike. It will take some exceptional reviews to get me to switch to another tire. For me, these are the tires to beat. However, don't take my word for it. I highly recommend purchasing a pair and judging for yourself.
