Well I'm actually glad I did, or I would never have found this one. Love that the top button locks and stores nicely in my cabinet. Most of all I love the quality and my nice, washed, and dried Salads and Herbs. I have been searching and wondering do I really need this, Yes ... Yes I do and I'm glad I finally invested in one.

Works well for spinning off water, but this size was too small for me...I find myself spinning spinach all the time! Also the inner part of lid is supposed to be able to be separated from the main lid...worked okay the first couple of times, but then a plastic ring on the inside just broke off. Still works, but am going to try a different/bigger spinner.

- Update: Still can't separate inner plastic lid from outer lid, but after ordering a bigger salad spinner I found it to be too big. Spinach that wasn't eaten right away went bad quicker. SO I returned to the small OXO from before. As I stated, I'm still using it even though inner lid can't be separated from outer lid...I just never wash the lid (sounds bad, I know, but I figure it can't be that dirty since its just getting wet from water spinning inside). I don't wash & store spinach anymore...I just wash a smaller amount every night.

I am unable to give this product a rating. It was ordered for me as a birthday gift. When I received it I noticed there was a small crack in the plastic lid. I returned it for a replacement, and received the replacement in a timely manner, however the replacement also had a small crack in the plastic lid. I wondered if I could live with it, but I could not accept damaged brand new merchandise. I do not believe the problem was with Amazon's packaging, but with the manufacturer's packaging. Needless to say, the second return was for refund. I have to say that Amazon's service was prompt. I have tried to locate this item in some of the stores around here, so I could check for damage before purchasing, but was only able to find the plastic models, which I do not want.

I received this a few days ago and promptly washed and spun a small head of lettuce. The spinning function is very smooth and also stops quickly with a push of a button. It worked very well and doesn't take up a lot of space. It looks really nice too and I like that the handle can be pushed flush with the lid for storage.I kept the lettuce refrigerated in the spinner and it still is very fresh. I love oxo products - the four stars instead of five was just because of the high price - it is hard to justify $40 but I can't complain because the quality is solid.

It took me a few weeks to come to grips with spending so much on a salad spinner, but I'm so glad I did. I was looking for a plastic-free salad spinner, but was unable to find one. So, this was the best thing I could come up with. The outside box arrived damaged, but the product inside was not.

The lid goes on easily with no problems lining up with the inner bowl. The lid does not attach to the bowl in any way, but it does fit nicely. The steel bowl seems sturdy and looks good. The gripping bottom and the weight of the bowl help to stabilize it as it spins. The size is just right for our family of three. It fits nicely in our fridge and yet comfortably holds more than half a head of iceberg lettuce. We typically wash, spin, and serve half of the salad, then wash, spin, and store the rest. It works well and functions as advertised. After I get it spinning pretty good, it will spin for maybe 5-10 seconds before it stops.

As for durability, only time will tell. My 5 yr old son somehow popped off the spinning mechanism, but I was able to pop it back into place with minimal effort. I've had no other issues with it so far. I still feel it's a durable product and I highly recommend it. Overall, even after the spinning part breaks, I'll still have a lovely stainless steel mixing bowl that should last for many years to come.

*Update*
Having owned it for almost a year, I am still completely satisfied with our purchase. It continues to work as it did when we first bought it. The only difference between then and now is that the plastic basket is slightly discolored. I accidently washed it in the dishwasher with dishes that had spaghetti sauce on them.

I bought this mini salad spinner two years ago and was initially very pleased, but it did not last as long as you would expect for this price. The first problem came with the plastic insert, after a few months it became warped and needed constant adjusting in order to spin. Then the little sliding button which locks the pump in the down position cracked and no longer worked, this meant that I could no longer use it to store lettuce in the fridge since it would not fit on the shelves of my tiny fridge. By the way, that was my favorite thing about this salad spinner, I used it to store my lettuce and it stayed fresh for far longer than any other method. Finally, the button broke altogether and though I can still wedge it in and get it to work temporarily it's quite a hassle. I will say though that I used it a couple times a week, so perhaps it would last longer for some.

Stainless, not plastic, but the strainer is still plastic.
Quick and effective. Easy to clean and stays looking good.
Clear top means you can see it's clean inside.
A good size for enough salad (or vegetables) to be cleaned, rinsed and dried without mess.
Sealed lid is good for avoiding spills.
Useful stainless bowl for tossing a salad or preparing other food, vegetables, etc.
I was thinking it's a tad expensive, but now it's one of the things we use every day in the kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essoreuse OXO très efficace pour célibataires ou couples
Reviewed in Canada on October 28, 2011
[ENGLISH BELOW]

This is a fabulous spinner once you learn to use it properly. One or two presses will not spin salad fast enough. One needs to press down quickly (without effort) and repeatedly at least 4 or 5 times to have the barrel reach maximum speed in a very stable manner. The spinning is so well balanced that there is no need to hold the base during spinning. This is the best spinner I have ever owned. Great for drying salads, mushrooms, berries, etc. No need to use paper towels with this baby. 8" metal bowl diameter is perfect for singles and couples. Great buy at 50% off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great small salad spinner
Reviewed in Canada on September 28, 2012
I live in a small condo, with limited cabinet space. I purchased this salad spinner as a smaller alternative to the one I already owned and gave away. It is the perfect size for a single person. It works wonderfully as expected and looks great too. If I don't find a place for it in the cabinet, I don't mind leaving it out. The look is very contemporary, (and you can use the stainless steel bowl to serve the salad), bonus!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice salad spinner
Reviewed in Canada on November 6, 2013
Great size for my condo. Simply put your salad leaves or herbs in the bowl and push down on the retractable handle a few times to give it a good spin. This will rinse out any water from those leaves or herbs. The bowl can also be used on its own (without the plastic filter inside). The bowl has a nice rubber backing at the bottom to prevent skids. The spinning mechanism comes apart for easy cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, especially for two people

I have long been a fan of the OXO salad spinner, but the one I have is very large, too large in fact for the amount of lettuce I now need to wash for meals for two. This one is a perfect size, and I really like the stainless steel bowl, which can be used to serve the salad.
