We used the earlier version of this coffee make for several years, and then gave it away when we received a Keurig as a gift. The Keurig was really easy to use, but after two years, just to expensive for daily use. In April 2012 we purchased this Mr. Coffee unit from Amazon, and for the past 6+ months, it has consistently delivered good, brewed coffee at least every morning, and sometimes throughout the day. It is simple us, and has not disappointed us yet. As with any coffee maker, I expect to have to open the reservoir lid to let the condensation go into the tank, and to exercise care when pouring as coffee pot glass spouts notoriously drip a drop or two. Overall -- it does what we need it to do, dependably.
UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER FROM ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm not sure what prompted me to revisit this review, but since I'm here .... This coffee maker continues to make good coffee, everyday. We use it daily except for approximately 7 days in the year. As noted in the original review, this is our second experience with this model. I expect things to last forever. And they just don't anymore. But at this point we have gotten our money from thsi unit, and hopefully will continue to enjoy it for years to come.
If you have low cabinets you will have to pull it out from under them to pour the water into the back reservoir as you need a good 21 inches above your counter-top to fully open the top cover. It's not a big hassle but some people may not like this idea. I have 24 inches and still pull it out to fill the reservoir as the pot needs another few inches of space to fully empty on the reservoir fill, a total of about 24 inches of vertical free space or so.
In using this coffee maker I found that the drip-stop valve did not always work well, and often leaked a bit onto the hot plate--the valve needs to be kept clean to avoid the worst of these spills.
The price, @14, is very reasonable. Any short comings are pretty much over-come by the price. I ended up buying these coffe-makers because the cost of replacement of the glass pot was just about what the brewer and pot cost for this model.
What a piece of crap.
What a piece of BS that Amazon would actually ship us a USED coffeemaker.
I also thought the automatic shutoff was a safety feature and because I was used to it turning itself off I am concerned that now I will forget to turn it off. Otherwise, it makes good coffee and we use it every morning.
