BUYER BEWARE! Description is for XShot 2.0 but they shipped me the Pocket XShot instead. TWICE!
My 1* rating here is for the deception, NOT the XShot 2.0, which I've owned several of and have found them to be very sturdy and well-built for the task. I would give the XShot 2.0 5 stars. However, what we have here is misleading and ultimately deceptive because they're showing you one product and sending another!I've been deceived twice already with 4 items total. The description on the page is for the XShot 2.0 which carries the part number XS2379-F. I've bought these before and I recommend them highly. HOWEVER, what I received were the Pocket XShot which carries the part number XSP2. From my photos, you can clearly see that they simply put the XSP2s in plastic bags with the XS2379-F labels on them.I don't know who is to blame for this deception. One time, I'll understand. Twice for four items? Deliberately deceiving the customer.

Xshot 2.0 competes for the space occupied by Quikpod. Both units merit consideration.

Briefly, the Quikpod Pro comes with a set of tiny tripod legs which convert the unit into a surprisingly useful tabletop tripod. The Quikpod also comes with a useful case and belt clip. It has a mirror like device that permits some attempt at composing your frame. It is a worthwhile unit.

The Xshot, however, has some advantages. First of all, the Xshot will hold a slightly heavier camera, up to 24 ounces as opposed to the Quikpod's 15. More importantly, the Xshot extends to 37", twice the length of the Quikpod. That extra distance has a great impact on how much of the background you capture in the shot, especially with the wide-angle lenses of many recent point 'n shoot cameras. The extra length also makes a big difference with cameras that have the equivalent of a 35mm lens. (The much more expensive Quickpod DSLR will handle cameras up to 8 pounds and extends to 53".)

The Xshot is made of telescoping tubes, which permit you to easily choose the amount of extension you want. The camera mount has a rubberized surface and a thumbwheel for tightening. The head itself has a substantial wing nut for tightening. I had trouble getting the unit absolutely tight, though the slight play left did not allow the camera to flop forward from the position I set it in.

The Xshot collapses to about 9" long. At that length, it lends itself handily to be used as a camera grip in the left hand, with the right being used for zoom and shutter controls. Extended out by one or two sections, the unit can also be used - if you are careful - as a chest pod, which could come in handy for longer exposures. But be careful: the tubing sections collapse easily.

Overall, the Xshot is a nice unit and a strong competitor to the Quickpod Pro. The Quikpod has more features and more secure extending tubes. The Xshot, however, offers longer reach. Both serve the purpose of allowing you to include yourself in your pictures on your terms, rather than trusting to the mercy of strangers.

Update June 2013:
Just took it on a trip for a cruise. I have to say I was really impressed with this item and would have said it was one of the best items I would say I ever bought until I kept cutting myself.

Positive.
Over 75% of my pictures now include me instead of just taking other peoples pictures.
The impossible angle pictures when hanging the camera over railings or open air/water.
When using the xshot, really appreciated some people just volunteered to take our pics so they looked even more normal as trying so hard. I've had to take like 3 shots to get one shot as you cannot prefocus.

Negative.
On my model with that groove, with the camera attached it is hard to retract the stick as you cannot grab the mount head.
Basically, the groves will snake bite your finger. I had no idea where I kept getting two tears into my finger until I realized it was the happening when I was retracting it. It was cutting into my hand each time till it started to bleed. Recommend like antennas - they smooth it out rather than having it rough cut as currently sold.

Commentary.
It draws a lot of looks from people but you are so busy getting it to work you will not notice.
Need to hold camera very still for a while.
Delay of 2 seconds is not enough but 10 seconds is too long. With my Sony camera facial detection, that helped so I could extend the camera and smile at it to trigger the shot.
You do have to explain to cruise crew what it is. Did not make it through the scanners.
Angle got a somewhat floppy on mount. Concerned about longterm.
Camera screw attachment was solid.

Overall:
Because it was causing an open wound constantly, I have to downgrade it to a 4 or 3.5

Previous review info:

Will be very useful on trips. Always hated to leave a camera sitting on a ledge that someone can run by and steal in 3rd countries or asking strangers for a shot.

Length is more than enough - would actually consider a shorter one for easier carrying.

Positive. ( improved model )
Looking at the pictures vs the one I have gotten from Amazon, here's what I see. 1. There is a hole at the bottom for a tripod now and strap still part of unit. 2. The extension bars have a groove on the sides so its not a totally smooth barrel like the pictures appear to show. It will not twist with a camera that way. I would have gotten the smaller Xshot version but was reading it twists so got this one instead.

Negative.
Camera angle mount - it gets floppy loose on occasion. Have to do a extra little tightening to make sure it does not come loose and move. At worst, the camera will flip a little. The camera lockdown screw is solid.

Really say its 4.5 stars.

This worked exactly what I purchased it for, GoPro POV shots. It works perfectly and it's very small. My only reasoning for downgrading on stars is the fact that it feels really cheap and looks cheap too. I used it normally out a car window and on a hike as well as underwater doing scuba diving. All in all, it works great, just feels and looks a little cheap. Can't complain too much given the price isn't all that much.

I'm planning an international trip and I have two tripods I wanted to take, the problem is space AND weight is limited. The taller one is light but takes up space and adds weight to a bag already close to the weight limit. The shorter one is a good size and can be included in my purse but lacks the height. Enter the XShot 2.0! With the built-in adapting screw socket on the bottom, I can put it on my short tripod and my Sony Handycam (about 1lb) on the XShot which means I don't have to pack the taller tripod at all... PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I worried the XShot would be too loose to hold the Handycam strait up by itself, but the telescoping sections are nice and stiff (It has a solid feel and seems well built). The only caution is the configuration it's not as steady as my taller tripod but that's no one's fault. The Handycam is waterproof so I may use the XShot with it under seawater. I know it's not exactly made for that use and if it freezes-up or something because of the salt water, I don't care (especially for the price), I'll just buy another!!
